Sandwich Boards and Chalk Boards
Sandwich boards were first introduced in the 19th century as a board carried by a person to advertise and promote local shops and their goods to passing public .
At first they were placecards nailed to a long piece of wood and carried by people walking up and down the streets. Eventually progressing to Sandwich boards consisting of two boards held together by straps and worn on the shoulders to make it easy to carry and walk and allowing advertising messages on both sides of the board to be read.
The boards were printed or written on by chalk in most cases advertising the product to increase attention and awareness of the shop and product. Even today on the streets people carry boards or have sandwich boards on pavements to indicate location and service or a product special offer by retailers.
Sandwich boards come in all sorts of shapes materials and sizes. Most shops use these on everyday basis in every location possible on pavements to attract customers’. so they can reach out to the passing trade or customers.
